Professor Sue Grimes
Sue Grimes is the SITA & Royal Academy of Engineering Professor of Waste Mangement at Imperial College, London. Sue was appointed in 2005 and joined Imperial from Brunel University as the College’s first Professor in Waste Management.
The focus of Sue’s current research is on waste as a resource, with particular emphasis on the development of scientific and technological research to maximise materials recovery and minimise waste.
Sue and her team of 8 or so research students, a visiting research professor, a research associate and a visiting research reader are focusing their expertise on material recovery from all types of waste. With recent data suggesting that 23 million tonnes of food waste is generated in the UK each year, one of the most relevant current projects is concerned with food waste and how it can be more effectively and efficiently dealt with.
Sue’s position has been funded by SITA Trust, over a five year period, with additional funding from the Royal Academy of Engineering.
More information about Sue is available from the Imperial College web site.
