Funding Boost for East Horsley Village Hall
East Horsley Village Hall has received a £4,500 funding boost from SITA Trust helping to provide 270 new seats for this very popular venue. According to manager, Jo Simms, the East Horsley Village Hall complex with its large Hall and four meeting rooms is probably one of the most widely used village facilities anywhere in England, attracting users from a wide area around The Horsleys. It had more than 47,000 users last year and 2008 is proving to be even busier. The new chairs are the final phase of a near £30,000 improvement programme and, with the shiny, refurbished wood-block floor, look stunning. The building is modern, spacious and well-maintained and the new seats have enhanced this popular venue even further.
SITA Trust provides funding through the Landfill Communities Fund. Funding is available for community and environmental groups to carry out a range of improvement projects.
The funding allocated to East Horsley Village Hall will enable it to meet the needs of a wider range of community groups as well as offering a very attractive facility for conference organisers. East Horsley Parish Council has also supported this important upgrade programme by providing 100 of the new seats.
According to Alberto who looks after the building, “After 18 years of partying, classes, debates, meetings, making music, and generally being at the heart of the action, the years had finally caught up with our chairs but I’m delighted that we have been able to find good homes for them with a variety of local groups – still serving the community but in less demanding roles”.
Ends.
