Friendly Bandroom Roof Replacement
The existing roof has now started to leak so badly that the only solution is to replace it. This a massive outlay to a small organisation like the Friendly Band and could have threatened the existence of the band in its spiritual home area. This grant will make a huge difference to the Band. It will allow for the repairs to be carried out, securing the Bands future, securing the building and allowing the Bandroom to be used by the local community.

Craig Lawrance, Chairman of the Friendly Band, said: “This funding has relieved the Band of a huge financial headache. It will allow us to move forward and continue to provide not only the traditional Brass Band functions, but allow us to expand and provide the free musical tuition to everybody who would like to take up the playing of a brass instrument. We provide a much needed social group for young and old alike to enjoy the playing of Brass Band music. This funding will also allow us to let other groups in the community to utilise the Bandroom as a meeting or function room when not in use by the band. We cannot thank SITA Trust enough for considering us in their obviously huge number of application requests and awarding the grant to the Band.”
Marianne Ivin of SITA Trust added “This is a great project and will certainly see a small community benefit in a big way. We are looking forward to seeing the project progress and to see the outcomes.
SITA Trust provides grants through the Landfill Communities Fund. This important source of funding has been available since 1997 and has provided such worthy projects with more than £1.4 billion.”
