30/01/2012 15:20: Funding Boost for Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust
Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust is planning to undertake biodiversity works at Teversal Pastures Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The work will enable sustainable management of 3 hectares of species rich, Biodiversity Action Plan protected, lowland grassland with wet patches – to bring it back into favourable condition. This is an important step in securing the future of this important landscape.
Fencing will be installed that will enable conservation grazing by a flock of hebridean sheep to remove and keep down sward. The project will include species surveys to help inform future management of the site. Bat and owl boxes will be installed whilst interpretation will promote sensitive public use of the site. A complimentary 250 meters of species-rich hedgerow will also be restored through coppicing and 'gapping up' – this technique not only creates a wildlife corridor but also enables bats to navigate using the hedgerow as a guide.
SITA Trust provides funding through the Landfill Communities Fund. Funding is available for available for projects that enhance communities and enrich nature.
