The Greenway Cycle Path
To create a cycle path leading into and through Rushden. It will link with a network of footpaths leading to local sites of historic and natural interest, such as Stanwick Lakes and Wildlife Trust sites.

24/04/2012 11:54: Funding boost for Greenway footpath and cycle route
East Northamptonshire is today celebrating the news that it has received a £60,000 funding boost from SITA Trust for the East Northants Greenway project. The funding will go towards extending the Greenway footpath and cycle route through the Irthlingborough Lakes and Meadows site managed by the Wildlife Trust between Higham Ferrers and Irthlingborough. The East Northants Greenway is a linked up network of walking and cycling routes in the south of the East Northamptonshire district. The ultimate aim is to encourage more people to walk and cycle rather than driving, thereby reducing carbon emissions and pollution, whilst providing an appealing route through the countryside. It currently runs from Rushden to Higham Ferrers, and the cash will contribute towards the wider vision of continuing the Greenway right through to Wellingborough train station.
The overall Greenway vision project is being developed in partnership between East Northamptonshire Council (ENC), Northamptonshire County Council (NCC) and Rockingham Forest Trust, with assistance from other agencies, including SITA Trust, Sustrans and MGWSP.
Councillor Steven North, Leader of East Northamptonshire Council, says:
"This is excellent news for healthy travel to work and leisure in the district. The existing Greenway route already encourages children to walk or cycle to school, local commuters to do likewise and everyone to adopt a more active lifestyle.
"The money will help to continue the link though to Irthlingborough and enable, for example, commuters from the town to cycle to work in Rushden. It will also link residents of the 3 towns to a network of footpaths, including the Nene Way, leading to local nature reserves and the leisure attraction at Stanwick Lakes."
