01/02/2012 16:05: Community Park improvements to go ahead in North Seaton
When the community association obtained land to the north of North Seaton Colliery, on a 999 year lease, from One North East they were keen to use it for community benefit.
They approached Wansbeck CVS for assistance in gaining funding and, with the CVS’ assistance, submitted an application to environmental funder SITA Trust for a substantial grant to enable work to take place at Castle Island Community Park to create a area where health and leisure pursuits can take place, improving people's quality of life.
The bid was successful and residents are now celebrating the news that SITA Trust will provide full funding for the work to take place. The donation will pay for fencing, soft landscaping works, planting works, installation of play equipment and a contribution towards the footpath.
The land sits between the village and the recently developed Ashwood Business Park.
Jools Granville of SITA Trust said ‘ SITA Trust has been providing funding in the North East for a number of years and we’ve allocated millions of pounds in the region. Grants are available for projects that enhance community leisure facilities and enrich our natural surroundings. ‘
