This project has over 70 volunteers restoring an area of chalk downland habitat at Long Hill in Mere, Wiltshire. The project will bring significant benefits to a Site of Nature Conservation Importance (SNCI). Restoring the chalk downland will help wildlife thrive and create wildflower-rich grasslands in accordance with the management plan. Footpaths will also be improved making access easier for people with mobility difficulties.
The volunteers are benefitting from a range of useful new practical and interpersonal skills and knowledge including tool use, working to health and safety guidelines and working as a team. Personal development will be recorded and mapped to suitable award schemes such as the Youth Achievement Award.
