BBC Breathing Places

This four year BBC campaign brings together inspirational broadcasting, mass audiences and partner events and activities to make a difference for British Wildlife. Launched in 2005, BBC Breathing Places has already inspired over 1 million people to get involved. In partnership with the Big Lottery Fund, £5million of funding has been invested in creating Breathing Places – involving thousands of people in transforming the UK.

2007 sees the campaign grow in ambition and scale. In June, 15 Breathing Places cities were launched at festivals across the UK. In conjunction with Springwatch, CBBC, CBeebies and Nations & Regions these events attracted over 300k people, and inspired them to ‘do one thing’ for nature. Each city has committed to targets to involve local people in making the city more hospitable for wildlife. These include the creation of wildlife roundabouts, tree planting, and making Breathing Places.
